From Upstate New York to Wyoming...and he's glad that he found his way here.

Jim Walter, Rotarian since 2013
Director of Sales and Marketing, Visit Cheyenne

Other than Rotary, which community organizations are you involved in? How does that involvement reflect what you most value about Rotary?
I am the sponsorship co-chair of the Wyoming Brewers Festival and have been involved with that festival since 2014. I have a passion for craft beer so that is a good fit for me. The proceeds raise money to keep the Historic Depot operating and giving back to the community to preserve a landmark is important to me. I also am involved on a professional basis with the Professional Convention Management Association, and I'll be the Rocky Mountain Chapter president in 2019.

Why did you join Rotary?
I joined Rotary to meet the leaders of the community. Having moved from the Syracuse, NY area, it was important to me to plug into the movers and shakers of Cheyenne.

What have you found to be most beneficial being a member of Rotary?
I have learned a lot about Cheyenne and Wyoming and have met some wonderful people with similar interests as I have.

What advice would you give to a person just joining or considering joining Rotary?
Get involved. Don't wait for someone to ask you to volunteer on a committee, offer to join one right away. You will make far deeper connections working with people instead of just eating lunch once a week with them.

What is your favorite winter or summer activity and why?
I am happiest when I'm outside. In the summer I love to backpack and hike, in the winter I enjoy snowshoeing.

How long have you lived in Wyoming and what do you like most about living here?
I moved to Wyoming in 2013 to work for Visit Cheyenne and help grow the convention business in town. The people in the community quickly accepted my family and made us feel very welcome.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I run, a lot. I finished my first ultra-marathon recently and training has been intense for that. I also enjoy hunting, I travel back to NY to hunt whitetails with my father every November, and as I mentioned before camping and backpacking.

What is your favorite sports team?
Having grown up 35 miles south of Syracuse, NY, I am a life long Orange fan. Their football program has been weak for a long time now, but their basketball program continues to be one of the best.

Tell us about your family?
I have an amazing little girl, Loriana, who is going to turn 11 next month. My brother lives in KC and my parents are still on the family farm in NY.

Do you currently watch any TV Series? If so, please elaborate.
I have a few shows that I binge. Jack Ryan, on Amazon Prime was amazing, and Better Call Saul is very good.
