Several Club members attended last week’s Rotary International Convention in New Orleans with more than 20,000 Rotarians in attendance.  The convention included great food, speakers, fellowship and entertainment.  The highlight of the convention was Bill Gates’ speech thanking Rotarians for their fight against polio and encouraging Rotary to finish the job.  “Your work has brought us so far, 99 percent of the way there,” Gates said. “The last 1 percent will be the toughest. It’ll require more work than ever before, but I’m convinced that this fight is winnable.”  The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has contributed $355 million to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign and cumulatively has contributed $1.3 billion toward the eradication of polio. Club members attending were Bill Gentle, John Millin, Lori Millin, Billie Addleman and Bob Womack.
