The Rotary New Member Committee met on May 6th to discuss the upcoming Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser, volunteer opportunities for new members, and how to work through the "red badge" checklist.

The Texas Roadhouse fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17th.  This is the week of the annual picnic so the fundraiser will not conflict with the normal meeting.  All proceeds will go to Rotary International's End Polio Now campaign. Jamie Markus will work with the other Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs in town in an effort to make this a city wide event.  Volunteers will be needed to sell $10 tickets to the luncheon and to serve the food.  More information about the event will be made available in the coming months.  If you are interested in joining the planning team for this event please let Jamie know.

Club directors are looking for volunteers to serve on various committees.  If you are interested in getting involved, take a look at the committees in your member directory and contact the chair of the committee or the director who manages the committee.

The red badge checklist includes the following activities:

_____   1. Sit at a different table for three consecutive meetings*.

_____   2. Attend Orientation or Rotary 101*.

_____   3. Have perfect attendance for one month.

_____   4. Attend a Board meeting.

_____   5. Become a member of a committee and attend your first committee meeting.

_____   6. Propose a new member.

_____   7. Help sergeant at arms greet arrivals for two meetings.

_____   8. Contribute financially to a Rotary project.

_____   9. Attend a District 5440 event.

You only need to complete seven items on the list to remove your badge.  The red badge is not a punishment or a rare form of hazing, it is board's way of involving and integrating you into the club.  Completed forms can be sent to Jamie or Lee.

Look for details for the next $1000 New Member Committee Community Grant in the fall.
