We have just completed a rush of fundraising events this past summer.  The money raised is designated to help fund the following projects selected by the World Community Service Committee:

Nakuru, Kenya project.
The objective of the Nakuru, Kenya project is to purchase desks and lockers for students. In three quarters of the 150 schools in the Nakuru District, students at best share desks, chairs and lockers, in most cases they sit on the floor to do their class work. The situation deteriorated from the effects of the 2008 post-election violence which displaced thousands of families causing a flood of displaced families to settle in refugee camps in Nakuru. 2400 students in 40 schools will benefit from the new furniture. The processes of teaching and learning will be improved through a better educational atmosphere. Our interest in this project is due, in part, to our contact with a club in Wisconsin which has partnered with the club in Kenya several times with positive results, past Rotarians Matt and Sherry Potter are intimately familiar with this area as they visited Nakuru in the recent past.
The proposed budget/funding allocation is as follows:
RC of Nakuru                             $100
District 5440 USA                        $10,000
Rotary International Match            $22,231
RC of Cheyenne                            $5,000
District Club support (5 Clubs, two individual Rotarian gifts) $10,500
Remaining Need $8,963

Total - $56,794

Jaguarao, Brazil

The object of the Jaguarao project is to buy a 16 passenger van for the transportation of about 130 poor students with special needs, including those in wheelchairs. The van would transport all 130 students each day (multiple trips each day), meaning more than 300 each month or 36,000 each year. The van would also carry teachers, management and employees so that they could attend training courses. Hiring of drivers and maintenance would be provided by APAE, the organization that serves the students. Jaguarao is a poor community in the Brazilian countryside and without this van students with special needs would depend upon public transportation with is difficult and expensive.

The proposed budget is as follows:

District 4780 Brazil                            $5,000

District 5440 USA                              $10,000

Jaguarao RC                                       $6,000

Cheyenne RC                                     $5,000

Scottsbluff/Gering                                $1500

Non Rotarian                                       $500

Rotary International                              $22,500

Remaining Need                                $2,500

Total      $52,500
