The Reading Under the Lights literacy initiative was spear-headed by Arp Elementary School teacher Sybil Bustos for the Laramie County School District 1 (LCSD1) South Triad community in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Event Details & Overview
- Purpose: The program aims to promote childhood literacy, foster family engagement, and build a unified sense of community among South Triad schools.
- The Experience: K–5 students and their families gather under the stadium lights at South High School's football field (home of the Bison). Families bring blankets to camp out on the turf, share a meal, cuddle up to read together, and receive free books to take home.
- Community Support: The event typically draws multi-generational attendees and heavily relies on local business sponsors, alongside organizations like the Cheyenne Rotary Club and Blankets for Laramie County Kids, to donate books and handmade blankets.
